IIC & CC’s Summer Youth Programs are comprised of linked academic streams which explore the literature,
history, archaeology and culture of Ireland, and also deliver tuition in English as a foreign language. This
summer school provides students and professors alike with an opportunity to immerse themselves in Irish
history, literature, culture and English as a second language in an esteemed academic centre with a rich
literary and cultural backdrop. This summer program will be of interest to enthusiasts of literature, history,
folklore, cultural studies and the liberal arts.
Participants are immersed in Irish history and culture. Classroom activities focusing on Irish history, literature, mythology, sports, music and politics are supplemented by visits to nearby literary, historical and archaeological sites led by instructors.
Course of Study Includes:
• Early Irish History
• The Archaeological Heritage of Ireland
• Modern Irish History and Literature
• Irish Culture and Traditions
This course is especially programmed to improve communication skills in spoken and written English. We place great importance on oral communication in the classroom, and course books and supplementary materials are interesting and stimulating. Two teachers are responsible for each programme and regular progress tests are built into the syllabus. Following successful completion of this course you will have acquired a world wide recognised qualification in English language proficiency from the Cambridge ESOL suite.
1. All accommodations, meals, tuition and in-country program related transportation.
2. 20 hours of 60-minute classes per week delivered by fully qualified and experienced ESL teachers using the most up-to-date and approved teaching methods.
3. 20+ hours per week of lectures in Celtic Studies and visits to local sites of interest.
4. Monitoring by the Director of Studies on a daily basis.
5. Textbooks and teaching aids which can be kept by the students.
6. “Welcome kit" with guides, maps, brochures, tourist information etc.
7. Cambridge ESOL Certificate of proficiency following successful completion of the program.
8. Certificate of attendance.
9. Use of Multi Media Facilities including free access to e-mail and Internet Video and self-access library.
10. Use of College facilities e.g. recreation room, gymnasium, sports facilities, auditorium, communications centre and library.
11. On campus evening activities as available.
12. Other support services provided as required.
