Celtic Studies Program 2010
June 4 to June 21, 2010

The Celtic Studies Program is a two-week summer intensive course, offered in Sligo, Ireland, the heart of Irish poetry. Students are immersed in Irish history and culture. Classroom lectures and activities focusing on Irish history, literature, archaeology, politics, mythology, sports, and music are supplemented with visits to nearby literary, historical, and archaeological sites led by instructors. Course requirements include a comprehensive exam at program’s conclusion and an essay completed after returning from Ireland. Undergraduate and Graduate credits available. This course is accredited by Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Scholarship Information

For the Summer 2009 Celtic Studies Program

Two scholarships available: one merit-based, one needs-based.

To apply for these scholarships:

Please submit an essay on the following topic:

The Archaeological Heritage of Sligo, Republic of Ireland

The essay must be typewritten, double-spaced with one-inch margins, and no more than 3,000 words. Please include your name, home institution, address, email, telephone number, the name of your study abroad advisor, and their contact info on your essay. Submit essay electronically to jlynch@iiccc.info no later than Sunday, February 15, 2009. Please include the information Ref: CSP Sch 2009 in the subject line. Applicants must have registered and paid the booking deposit prior to submission of essay for scholarship. Essays will be evaluated by Professor Sam Moore, Archaeologist. An external examiner will also be appointed by Endicott College, Beverly, Massachusetts, the institution awarding academic credit for the program. The winners will be notified not later than Friday, February 27, 2009. Please forward any questions to info@iiccc.info.

To be eligible for the need-based scholarship, you must be eligible for the Pell Grant (USA) or similar need-based financial aid (outside of USA). Please indicate on your essay submission if you wish to be considered for the need-based scholarship and that you are eligible for the Pell Grant or other similar eligibility abroad.

Scholarship awards will include air fare and the $3,050 program cost.
